Spain is a country, located in the southwest of Europe. It borders with the Bay of Biscay, the Mediterranean Sea, the North Atlantic Ocean, and the Pyrenees Mountains in the southwest of France. Spain also has borders with Andorra (63.7 km), France (623 km), Gibraltar(1.2 km), Portugal (1, 214 km), Morocco (Ceuta) (6.3 km), Morocco (Melilla) (9.6 km). The total area of Spain is 504, 782 sq km.
Spain is built up by 19 autonomous communities including the Canary Islands, the Balearic Islands, The Chafarinas Islands (off the coast of Morocco), Penon de Alhucemas(off the coast of Morocco), Penon de Velez de la Gomera(off the coast of Morocco).

Spanish climate is rather temperate. Mainland Spain can be divided into four climatic zones:
Atlantic climate of northern coast. Average temperatures are 9ªC in winter and 18ªC in summer. Can get quite wet particularly in autumn and winter. Summers are cooler and wetter here than the rest of Spain)
Continental Mediterranean climate of interior central plateau (mesetas). Low temperatures in winter, with temperatures under -15ºC not uncommon, and under -20ºC regularly occurring. Summer an average 24ªC. Annual rainfall under 400mm. Heavy snowfalls in winter. As the Castilians say " nueve meses de invierno y tres meses de infierno. " "nine months of winter and three months of hell".
Eastern and southern coast and much of the Guadalquivir Valley - mediterranean climate. Average temperatures of 11ºC in winter and 23ºC in summer. Annual rainfall between 250 mm and 600 mm.
Subtropical climate. Canary Islands . Average winter temperatures above 14ºC. Average summer temperatures around 22ªC.
The population of Spain is 40, 491, 051 (July 2008 est.)
The official language of Spain is Castlellano Spanish (74%). Other languages also spoken in Spain include: Catalan(17%), Galician(7%), Basque and Valencian (2%).

Currency and currency transfers
Spanish official currency is Euro since January of 2002.
There are eight different coins:
1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 cents, € 1 and € 2.
There are seven different notes:
€ 5, € 10, € 20, € 50, € 100, € 200, and € 500.
One euro consists of 100 cents.
Driving in Spain
If you are a citizen of the European Union, Iceland, Switzerland, Norway, or Liechtenstein: all you need is your valid driver's license. If you are from another country, you will need an International Driver's Licence. To drive in Spain you must be at least 18 years old. To rent a vehicle, you must be at least 21.
Travelling to Spain
If you are a citizen of the European Union, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein: all you need is your Identification Card, or a valid passport. Citizens of the other countries will require a visa. Minors travelling with their ID card must have a document that shows parental authorization.
