Originally starting out as a neighbourhood, this large property development situated in a desireable region between Marbella and Fuengirola has now evolved into what could more closely be called a town.

Having the luxury of the coastline at the same time as maintaining a rural feel is one of the distinct advantages of living in Calahonda, and its founder can be thanked for this. An advocate of green open spaces and large plots, he also incorporated into the plan the restriction of apartment buildings, favouring villas and townhouses.

A wide range of amenities can be found here, along with three commercial centres which include a vast array of restaurants, pubs and cafeterias, supermarkets, banks and a good variety of useful businesses such as car hire, furniture shops, and a chemist.

Calahonda boasts a total of 10 golf courses, all located within 10 kilometres of its well-known urbanisation.
The proximity to the coast also allows for a wide range of watersports, and Cabopino, Calahonda´s own port, should satisfy boat enthusiasts.

Calahonda also provides a fitness centre as well as tennis courts to its residents.

You will find a nursery school in Calahonda, and private primary and secondary schools located nearby. The English International School is very well known on the coast, and is approximately 5 to 10 minutes drive from the urbanisation.

Las Chapas and Ecos, private Catholic schools for girls and boys respectively are run by the Grupo Atendis, and offer a high quality Spanish education. Both can be found just off the N-340, direction Marbella . State-funded schooling is available in La Cala de Mijas has a state funded school, where a free school bus service runs for students coming from Calahonda.
